Archiving Policy
Digital Archiving and Preservation
Loquēla (Journal of Linguistics, Literature, and Education) ensures the long-term accessibility and preservation of its published content through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN). This free, sustainable digital preservation service is specifically designed for journals using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.
The PKP PN utilizes the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) technology to create a decentralized, distributed archiving system. This ensures that if a journal ceases publication or becomes unavailable online, the content remains preserved and accessible via trusted libraries and institutions participating in the network.
Key Features of PKP PN:
- Decentralized Archiving: Journals are archived across multiple geographically dispersed nodes, reducing the risk of data loss and ensuring redundancy.
- Preservation of Authentic Content: The system preserves the original version of each article, maintaining its integrity with no unauthorized changes to the content.
- Trigger Event Access: The PKP PN operates as a "dark archive," meaning that the content is only made publicly accessible in the event of a trigger, such as the journal going offline or ceasing operations.
- Free for OJS Journals: Participation in the PKP PN is free for all OJS journals with an ISSN, ensuring long-term digital preservation without financial burden.
By utilizing the PKP PN, Loquēla ensures that its content is safely stored and can be restored or accessed in the future, even if unforeseen circumstances affect the journal’s hosting platform.
The journal also supports self-archiving, allowing authors to store pre-print or post-print versions of their articles in institutional or personal repositories, providing additional layers of access and preservation for their work.
